Local Area Information

Most people come to the Ribble Valley to enjoy the natural landscape of the area. Our quiet country lanes make exploration a real pleasure and with country inns, market towns and plentiful historic sites, you will have time to enjoy a variety of excursions. The slopes of Pendle Hill provide an impressive base for dry skiing and horse riding is available at several equestrian centres throughout the area. Superb golf courses exist at Clitheroe, Longridge and Whalley, while for the less energetic the pitch and putt course at Edisford is a popular venue. The water sport enthusiast has the choice of swimming at Ribblesdale Swimming Pool or canoeing, which is available at Clitheroe Canoe Club. For the fisherman, both course and game anglers are well catered for. There are well-stocked trout lakes and rivers that are fast regaining their reputation as some of the finest in the country. Fishing permits are available from the Tourist Information Office in Clitheroe.
