Property Description

The Farmhouse was once the main farm on Dunnottar Castle Estate. There is actually an old stone dating back to the 13th Century in the wall of the garden. The house itself is set away from the farm buildings and is surrounded by a mature walled garden with woodland on either side. There is also substantial private parking onsite at the side of the house. The farm is situated across from the main entrance to the spectacular and world famous Dunnottar Castle which featured in Hamlet, starring Mel Gibson and Glen Close.

The rooms consist of two spacious double rooms with adjoining small single room, originally used as a dressing room in its former days. Both rooms have views of the cliffs and the North Sea.

Newly installed for this season in one of the bedrooms is a tasefully and functionally designed en-suite shower room complete with large wall mirror, shaver point and heated towel rail.
The second room has a spacious private (not en-suite) traditional country house bathroom with bath and shower facilities.

Both rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished in the country style. Each room also has its own tea and coffee making facilities, colour television, fresh towels daily and of course the all important comfortable beds.

When you step inside the front porch, you are welcome to sit and admire the garden and seaview or just sit and admire the sun.

If the weather is cooler there is also full use of the lounge area which has central heating and a peaceful ambience.

The dining room is in a traditional farmhouse style and you can be guaranteed a substantial breakfast, which consists of fruit juice, choice of cereals, sausage, bacon, egg, mushroom and tomatoes; followed by tea or coffee, toast and a choice of marmalades and jams.

Continental tastes are also catered for on request and consists of yoghurts, fruit, cheese and ham. Breakfast can also be enjoyed during the Summer months out in the Porch area.

Local Area Information

Stonehaven is a seaside town with a variety of shops situated around the Market Square. Many hotels, pubs and eateries serve foods which can be found to suit most tastes. One such pub is the Royal Hotel, just off the square, Ideal for the whole family.

After eating there are lots of sites to see, for example, the only heated outdoor swimming pool in Scotland can be found down at the beach side, as can the indoor one. We also have some of the nicest beaches in Scotland.

There are also tennis courts, bowling greens (indoor/outdoor), outdoor putting, amusement arcades for the children, cafes and just a short drive North is Stonehaven Golf course.

Further South along the coast is the Harbour which is still used to land catches but mainly for pleasure. Along the harbour front are two public houses which cater for the flow of customers who choose to sit outside in the sunshine, or on the sand.

Several boats sail from the harbour during the summer months past Dunnottar Castle and occasionally to the bird sanctuary further down the coast.

Stonehavens War Memorial is a particularly noticeable monument, standing on top of the Black Hill just North of the Bed and Breakfast.

It is often thought of as being in a poor state of repair but this is the way it was designed to look - as unfinished or ruined as the lives of those it commemorates.

The Lewis Grassic Gibbon Centre is only 5 miles away and offers some history about James Leslie Mitchell who captured the harshness of life in the Mearns. His earthy writing style has endeared him to thousands of Scots at home and abroad and led to the opening of a centre in his memory in Arbuthnott in 1992.

Scattered down the coast are fishing villages, including Kinneff. This is where the crown jewels were hidden after being smuggled from Dunnottar Castle to prevent them from being stolen. The village of Catterline is also South, famous for the artist Joan Eardley.
