About HistoryThis splendid Château, first built in 1544 by a famous family of glass manufacturers, is situated in the heart of the peaceful and romantic Couserans. During the centuries, it was often modified until at the end of the 19th century, by adding the south western wing with the enormous winter garden, it looks as it does today. Napoléon III often stayed in the Château de Poudelay when he was travelling to Spain. One suite was always on his disposal, it's our ' Chambre Napoléon '. The interior has many attractive original elements, i.e. marble fireplaces in almost all rooms, original wallpaper in the 'Petit Salon', huge wooden stairs, parquet floors and the old kitchen. Most impressive are the 'Jardin d'Hiver' (Winter Garden) with its splendid French windows and the enormous fireplace.

We are within a ten minute drive to the beautiful Otago Peninsula with its Royal Albatross Colony and Yellow eyed penguins. Also Larnach Castle. Thecity boasts four golf courses all within a ten minute drive. Good beaches.
We are only ten minutes walk to the oldest Botanical Gardens in New Zealand.
