This apartment is situated in a beautiful part of the Alpujarras, in the attractive village of Mecina Alfahar, a wonderfully peaceful village in the Eastern Alpujarras, (just 80 minutes from Almería Airport and 3 hours from Malaga)..... The coast is a 45 minute drive away with Granada and the famous Alhambra Palace being approximately a two hour drive away..... The Alpujarras district is renowned for its friendly people and traditional festivals, with each village having different celebration dates. The Alpujarras is very popular with walkers, many of the sign-posted routes pass through olive groves, fruit orchards, and almond trees..... The area offers a whole spectrum of trekking possibilities, including the snow capped mountains of Mulhacen and Veleta which are sometimes referred to as the Switzerland of Spain...... Mecina Alfahar is a tranquil and rural village with stunning panoramic mountain views and it is located close to other villages and amenities, such as Valor and Yegen...... For those wanting a wider shopping experience Ugíjar is a commercial town and offers a good range of modern shops, cafes and restaurants. In addition every two weeks there is a market in Ugíjar selling local seasonal produce..... There are several large indoor shopping centres, around 40 minutes away at El Ejido, Roquetas de Mar and Almería...... BEACHES....... The Costa Tropical is hot, dry and sunny and provides perfect conditions for sunbathing as well as growing garden vegetables and plants...... The nearest beaches are about 45 minutes away, such as Adra and Roquetas de Mar which have quiet beaches and good facilities (lifeguards, parasols, toilets, showers, sunbeds and beach cafes)....... However many of the mountain villages have outdoor communal swimming pools and these are open in the summer months. A lot of these pools offer a relaxation area for sunbathing and a refreshment area, selling food and drink as well..... FOOD and DRINK........ There are many Alpujarran specialities available and one inexpensive method is to ask at lunchtimes (normally between 2 and 4 in the afternoon) in the restaurants for the Menu of the day, which uses fresh seasonal produce. Trevelez Ham and Manchego cheese are local delicacies and they are often served as a complimentary tapas prior to the meal. Another popular food item is the Alpujarran special, consisting of black puddings with fried eggs, sauté potatoes and cured Serrano ham...... Wines are made locally in this part of Andalucia and rose is very popular with the Spanish community...... DIRECTIONS...... On arrival in the pretty village of Mecina Alfahar, look for the white washed picturesque village church. Adjacent to this, you will see a large Spanish building, the enormous three bedroom apartment is situated on the top floor of this property and it is decorated in a simple and effective rustic style...... Apartmentos la plaza has the most breathtaking views over Valor, Ugíjar and Yator and has shutters, which provide substantial shade in the hot summer months. It is built in the traditional manner and therefore is a great place to shelter from the hot sun...... The residents of Mecina Alfahar are predominantly Spanish and therefore you can be assured of a very friendly welcome..... If you need anything during your stay, the local people will be happy to point you in the right direction...... The accommodation is suitable for 5 or 6 people and comprises of a number of different rooms, all with high ceilings, which can be used for various activities. The apartment is incredibly spacious with a very long entrance hall, (this is great for storing walking boots and other outdoor items)....... A covered terrace, (similar to a conservatory) with glass windows and panoramic views is a reading or eating room and it is situated next to the kitchen, this contains a good selection of cupboards and appliances with utensils provided for food preparation and cooking...... The bathroom has been designed in a modern style and is situated close to a good sized double bedroom. There are a further two bedrooms, one of which has a balcony, which would be an ideal venue to enjoy breakfast or a glass of wine. In addition there is a sitting room, which could be used for rest and relaxation........ The apartment price includes all bedding, towels and kitchenware, however it is one of our most popular apartments, therefore early booking is recommended......
