Local Area Information

The most all year round tourist destination in Europe, the Costa del Sol has numerous magnificent well kept beaches. The average water temperature is 18 C ( and 24 C in August).

Most beaches in Riviera feature small open-air bars or typical Spanish beach restaurants called chiringuitos typically serving a selection of fresh fish. From my experience as a dad on holiday there , the beach with the best services - including deck chairs, toilets, lifeguards and security is a place called Cabapino. Not only is the beach fantastic and goes on for miles there is also a small secluded port where some fantastic yachts are moored and is surrounded by great bars and restaurants. All kind of water sports equipment can be hired on the beach as you can in any one of many leisure ports along the coast.
Though the Costa del Sol has a wealth of yacht marinas and harbours as well, many with over 1,000 berths, including Benalmadena and Puerto Banus. The latter, located just beyond Marbella is Spain's answer to St. Tropez where some of the most spectacular gin palaces and luxury yachts are moored.
Mijas
Mijas is a typical Andaluz village, perched high above Fuengirola and Mijas Costa like so many sugar cubes with spectacular views of the coast and surrounding heavily wooded mountains.
Calahonda
Calahonda is situated next to Riviera which is midway between Marbella and Fuengirola. It is located close to several golf courses and has the typically sun-drenched beaches for which the Mediterranean is famous.
Marbella
Marbella's motto is 'A Way of Life' and, certainly, this luxurious resort town seems to have it all and is, once again, rising to the fore as a favourite location with the rich and famous, this is southern Spain's answer to St Tropez.
San Pedro de Alcantara
San Pedro de Alcantara was once famous for it’s sugar cane and is traditionally a farming community. Today San Pedro is a busy coastal town only minutes away from the Sierra de Ronda mountain range. Located just 10km west of Marbella where trendy shops and nightlife are within easy reach.
Estepona
Estepona is one of the few coastal towns that has succeeded in maintaining its pueblo charm and character, despite the onslaught of tourism. Notwithstanding, all the tourist facilities are here, including hotels, restaurants, leisure and cultural activities, and shops.
Sotogrande
Sotogrande is the luxury resort estate on the Mediterranean coast 20 minutes from Gibraltar and an hour and a half from Malaga. Sotogrande is roughly 5,000 acres in size and has three golf courses, Sotogrande and Valderrama. There are facilities for horse riding, polo, tennis, fronton, paddle tennis and sailing. The Marinas is the first important leisure harbour on entering the Mediterranean.
