Two luxury Scottish self catering holiday cottages each sleeping six people set in a quiet and peaceful location next to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park The two cottages Coll cottage and Tiree cottage each sleep six people and are part of Dykehead House a listed building of architectural and historical interest dating back to the 1700s Both cottages were completely renovated and refurbished in 2007 to the highest standards offering modern facilities and comfort in a traditional country setting Dykehead is some 14 miles from the historic city of Stirling 7 miles from Loch Lomond and just one hours drive from Scotlands two main cities Glasgow and Edinburgh There are many beautiful villages near by with shops restaurants pubs and historical sites Coll and Tiree cottages provide an excellent base for exploring Scotland at any time of the year There are many local walks as well as cycling fishing golfing loch sailing and horse riding The Trossachs area is renowned for its stunning scenic beauty as well as having an abundance of historical places to visit You will never be at a loss for something to do or somewhere to visit during your stay

DYKEHEAD AND THE LOCAL AREA Coll and Tiree cottages date back to the 18th cenury The round room which you can see on the Home Page photo and which is incorproarted into our logo was once a toll booth The buildings making up Dykehead House are lsited and are of local architectural and historical interest The cottages are surrounded by some of Scotlands most beautiful countryside Weve put some photos of Dyekhead and the local countryside in the Picture Gallery of our website On our doorstep is the Port of Menteith a little village with a school lakeside restaurant and church Next to this is the Lake of Menteith which is Scotlands only lake Its a beautiful calm stretch of water with mountains framing the background Theres fishing on the Lake and a little island with the ancient Augustinian Inchmahome Priory on it which can be visited by boat The countryside north and west of Dykehead Cottages has been newly designated as Scotlands first national park and encompasses Loch Lomond and the Trossachs This area is famous the world over for its scenic beauty The Loch Lomond and the Trossachs area has an abundance of leisure pursuits that will keep you busy during your stay On the loch itself there are some stunning views from the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond You can take a sail on the steamboat on Loch Katrine only half an hours drive from the cottages and experience the glorious scenery that inspired Sir Walter Scott to write the poem Lady of the Lake in 1810 There are many local walks some that are leisurely some that are a little more demanding but all with superb views of the lochs mountains and glens that surround the area We will be pleased to provide you with more information about where to walk during your visit with us NEARBY TOWNS Callander is short drive from the cottages Callander is a lively place during the season with a supermarket banks and various other shops cafes and pubs and a variety of restaurants Here you can learn about Rob Roy in the Visitor Centre the Highland Games Scottish Celtic music take a walk find out whats going on and where to eat The MCLaren High School in Callander has a leisure centre which has a good swimming pool Aberfoyle is also a short drive from the cottages and is the gateway to the Trossachs lochs forests and glens Theres a golf course in Aberfoyle situated on the hills with views over the valley Visit the David Marshall Lodge in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park just up the hill from Aberfoyle and watch videolinks to Ospreys nesting during season You can have a meal here or a cup of tea or coffee and do some shopping for local gifts Kippen is a small local village a few miles for the cottages with a pub restaurant and post office STIRLING CITY Stirling and the Old Town is about 14 miles by car Visit the ancient castle set high on a rocky mount once an active volcano where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned Queen of Scotland Learn about the ancient city of Stirling its occupants history and medival old town Visit Bannockburn Bannockburn site of the ancient battlefield of 1314 and learn about King Robert Bruce Visit the Wallace Monument built in Queen Victorias time to commemorate the freedom fighter William Wallace 12671305 who Mel Gibson portrayed in the film Braveheart Visit the beautiful University of Stirling campus with its loch surrounded by hills
