The apartment is situated on the second floor of a newly converted art deco building with direct access by lift to the quay and secure parking There is heating and airconditioning for year round comfort The apartment will sleep 4 adults and one child The accommodation comprises Entrance hall cloakroom with WC and handbasin loungediner with openplan fitted kitchen equipped with dishwasher microwave electric oven and hob and fridgefreezer The lounge area has access to the terrace and the furniture includes a large sofabed A TV English and French DVD player and telephone are provided There is a library of English and French books The terrace has a table and chairs and deck chairs There are views of the port and the surrounding vine clad hills The bedroom has a 5 foot wide double bed and a small bed suitable for a child There are bedside tables with lights and a wardrobe with shelves The large ensuite bathroom has a doublesized shower toilet washbasin washing machine and heated towel rail The flat is fully equipped with the exception of towels and bed linen which may be hired
Local Area InformationPortVendres is situated on the Mediterranean coast south of Perpignan and about 10 miles from the Spanish border First used by the Phoenicians and named Porto Venares Port of Venus by the Romans its natural deepwater harbour welcomes small cruise liners and yachts as well as supporting a thriving fishing fleet and a commercial port Seafood lovers will enjoy the many restaurants around the quay the large fish market and the opportunity to buy direct from the small fishing boats that arrive at the quay opposite the apartment in the morning There is a weekly Saturday market and plenty of shops of all types along the quay There is a supermarket Internet caf and DVD rental as well as doctors dentists and hairdressers all within a short walk of the apartment PortVendres and its near neighbour Collioure with their beautiful scenery and light attracted many artists including Charles Rennie Macintosh who spent the final years of his life living and working in PortVendres Inland the attractive town of Ceret is home to the Museum of Modern Art housing works by Picasso A short drive into Spain will take you to the home of Salvador Dali There are many opportunities to enjoy watersports such as scubadiving wind surfing and fishing Minicruises along the Spanish coast depart from the quay and a little train will take you on a ride through the hills and the vineyards Wine lovers will have many opportunities to taste the locallyproduced Banyuls and Collioure wines and those of the Ctes des Rousillon Walkers can explore the many waymarked footpaths along the coast or inland There are small coves with beaches along the Cte Vermeille and larger blue flag beaches are a short drive away A little further afield you can explore the Cathar castles of the Corbires region the Canal du Midi and the Pyrenees The ancient towns of Carcassonne Lagrasse Perpignan and Narbonne are within easy reach
