Property Description

Erne cottage is a luxury cottage adjacent to the Old Bushmills distillery (30 meters or 1 minute walk) with shops and supermarkets nearby (20 meters or 1-2 minutes walk). There is a train which goes to the Giant’s Causeway from Bushmills, or there is a scenic path, it is a 2-3 mile walk. Dunluce castle is about 1-2 miles away. 1 mile to the sandy beach of Port Ballintrae and 3 miles to the White Rocks, lifeguard beaches.

The cottage has been recently decorated to a high specification. There are 3 bedrooms with 2 double beds and 2 single beds. There is a spacious lounge, kitchen and garden with tarmac parking space for 4 cars.

There is a brand new washing machine, tumble drier, flatscreen TV with 30 digital channels, DVD player, kitchen, bedroom and garden furniture.

Northern Irelands only UNESCO World Heritage Site The Giants Causeway renowned for its polygonal columns of layered basalt is the only World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland Resulting from a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago this is the focal point of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has attracted visitors for centuries It harbours a wealth of local and natural history The formation of the Giants Causeway was due to intense volcanic activity Lava welling up through fissures in the chalk bed formed a lava plateau Three periods of volcanic activity gave rise to the Lower Middle and Upper Basalts and its the Middle Basalt rock which forms the famous amphitheatres of hexagonal columns in the Causeway Weathered formations have created circular structures round a core of basalt which are known locally as giants eyes Some other formations with popular names are the Chimney Stacks The Harp The Organ and the Camels Hump Sea birds can be seen off the coast around the Causeway with species such as fulmar petrel cormorant shag redshank guillemot and razorbill being frequently observed Rare and unusual plant species including sea spleenwort hares foot trefoil vernal squill sea fescue and frog orchid can be found on the cliffs and nearby rock formations Visitor facilities for The Giants Causeway include a shop providing refreshments and souvenirs Guided tours of the Causeway are available by arrangement for groups of more than 15 people and there is access for visitors with disability The area is suitable for picnics cliff and country walks and dogs are welcome on leads

Recently awarded with the prestigious 2011 Blue Flag Award, Portrush Whiterocks Beach has become a favourite with locals and a must see destination for International visitors.

The limestone cliffs of the White Rocks stretch from Curran Strand to Dunluce Castle. These soft, sedimentary rocks have been carved through centuries into a labyrinth of caves and arches. Shelagh’s Head, the Wishing Arch, Elephant Rock and the Lion’s Paw are headlands of distinguishable forms which rise out of the ocean. Under the road, there are cavernous caves, accessible only from the sea, home to seabirds and a hunting ground for hawks.
WHITE ROCKS BEACH
On the main coast road, you will find pull-in areas and a large car park where you can take in the incredible views of the headlands to the Giant’s Causeway and back to Portrush and Donegal. Along the beach, there are grassy knolls with sea views and ideal for picnics.

The beach attracts water sports enthusiasts, as regular surfers and body boarders can be seen in the surf, and there are many shops and services nearby that can organize the hire of such equipment.
