This is a long established tourist area with innumerable attractions. The most popular are Portmeirion, Llechwedd slate caverns, Harlech Castle, Royal St. David's Golf club, Ffestiniog Railway, Tal y Llyn Railway and all the other Great Little Trains of Wales.
Walking is ever popular and the most well known are the Precipice Walk, Panorama Walk, Torrent Walk and the Mawddach Estuary walk. For serious walkers, they can leave the cottage and immediately enter into the Rhiniog Mountains or cross the famous Barmouth bridge to climb on the Cader Idris Range.
