Local Area Information

St Mary’s Cottage is set in the heart of the attractive market town of Hadleigh in Suffolk, within easy walking distance of local restaurants, pubs and shops.
Hadleigh itself is a vibrant historic market town full of medieval buildings, including the Guildhall and the Deanery Tower both of which are one minutes walk from St Mary’s Cottage. There are a number of wonderful walks in and around Hadleigh including many signposted circular walks, a leafy walk along an old disused railway line, a river walk along the River Brett and a very pleasant walk to the nearby and much photographed village of Kersey.

Whilst staying a St Mary’s Cottage you will only be a 30 minute drive away from many of the various attractions that the region has to offer – the picturesque villages of Lavenham and Dedham with nearby Flatford Mill as painted by John Constable, the historic town of Bury St Edmunds, Britain’s oldest recorded town, Colchester, home of Colchester Castle , the county town of Ipswich with its shops, cinemas and Wolsey Theatre, as well as it’s regenerated dockside area where many bars and restaurants can be found. Also within half an hour are the coastal towns of Felixstowe, with it’s pier, boatyard and foot ferry across the estuary, or Frinton with it’s expansive sandy beach.
Closer to home you will find Hollow Trees Farm Shop which was voted the N.F.U’s National Best Farm Shop and Hadleigh’s very own cookery school, The Cooking Experience.
