Property Description

Casa dei Limoni is not just another simplyfurnished and poorly equipped holiday house to be used by anonymous tourists It is our second home which we bought in 1998 and have carefully and lovingly renovated and we hope that you will feel it is a home too Certainly all our guest say how exceptionally comfortable our house is In fact it consists of a main house and a guest house on the other side of the garden Together with the very spacious terrace this means that even with nine people you do not feel crowded Our house is situated in a quiet secluded spot on the edge of a small village on the outskirts of Imperia the provincial capital The village is called Cantalupo Where the wolf sings and is just 4 km from the city the sea and bathing beaches Cantalupo itself is an Italian village unlike many Ligurian villages which are overrun with tourists The house has its own large garden with lemon orange grapefruit and olive trees and a view over the unspoilt valley to the sea The main house On the ground floor there is a large livingroom with a modern woodburning stove a bedsofa which sleeps two and a new fitted kitchen oven fridge freezer There is also a spacious bathroom On the first floor there are two separate bedrooms each for two people 1 double bed 2 single beds a small washroom with toilet washbasin and washingmachine The beds have mosquitonets and oh how important they can be The guest house This is in the garden divided from the main house by a terrace It consists of an entrance corridor one large room 20 sqm and a bathroom The guest house has three single beds The garden The garden consists of three terraces and the lower garden in which the two houses stand has a large terrace with a pergola and a barbecue Our guests are welcome to help themselves for their everyday needs to what is growing in the garden lemons oranges herbs and a variety of vegetables Both the houses and the garden are arranged in the Ligurian style and are tiled throughout with cotto For the cooler months there is gas centralheating as well as the woodburning stove this means that the house is warm in the winter A supply of wood for fuel can be bought locally Broadband internet connection is free For more information and many pictures on the house garden and the area visit our website httpwwwcasadeilimonieu Read what our guests have said httpcasadeilimonieuenhouseguestbookhtml

Cantalupo is in the famous olivegrowing area of Liguria and the beautiful olive groves stretch through the hills Beyond these lie the Maritime Alps So the area is ideal not only for swimming on the Riviera but also for walking and mountainbiking There are some wonderful places to swim in the streams and lakes in the mountains you will find details of many such attractions in our house Our website httpwwwcasadeilimonieu has a great deal of information and photos of the area and its attractions If you would like a book to introduce you to the way of life in this part of Liguria read Extra Virgin by Annie Hawes Penguin 2001 A great read and helps you to understand a culture which is probably different to your own Her village Diano San Pietro is only a few kilometres from Cantalupo Swimming Imperia has good quality water and beaches with many excellent places to swim which offer a wide variety of conditions The closest beach 35 km from the house is Borgo Foce the sheltered bay with the amazing backdrop of the old town of Porto Maurizio This free beach is very popular with locals and visitors Small children can enjoy the safe swimming inside the bay where the water is calm even when the sea is rough outside Snorkelling is good here too For those who feel like relaxing there are deckchairs to hire two small bars to frequent or the rocks to lie on A few hundred metres further to the east right in front of Porto Maurizio Imperia really consists of two towns the other is Oneglia just to the east there are wide sandy beaches some parts of which are free some where you pay a small fee to enter and to use the sunbeds Attractions There are many further attractions whale watching diving hill or mountain walking Our website has full details httpwwwtalesandmusicdeitaly The climate The Ligurian coast is marked by deep valleys which lead down from the Maritime Alps This results in remarkably varied microclimates with one valley being considerably warmer or colder than the next Imperia is fortunate in enjoying excellent conditions amongst the finest not only in Liguria but also in Italy We have a lot of sunshine 2900 hours per year The official meteorological figures record 140 clear days 165 changeable days and only 60 rainy days Importantly especially in the summer a sea breeze moderates the heat the average temperature is a pleasant 31C We often hear of the rest of Italy suffering heat waves while we can enjoy the summer Similarly the winters are very mild averaging 13C and with a lot of sunshine In addition the humidity is relatively low The air is often so clear that the island of Corsica can be seen Together with the moderate temperatures this means a dry seaclimate which is noted as ideal for heart and respitory complaints
