Nearest airports are Girona (40 miles south) and Perpignan (40 miles North) but Barcelona is also within reach. Private taxi service available. Also car hire details can be forwarded.
Just 5 minutes walk away are shops, banks, bars and several restaurants.
Local languages -Catalan and Spanish but English, French and German are also understood.
Castelló is full of history and dates back to the Romans with a magnificent cathedral in its centre and other historic buildings.
As a complete contrast, the apartment is also within easy reach of the moden seaside resort of Empuriabrava (10 mins in the car) for those of you who wish to sky dive, swim, windsurf, jetski and Empuriabrava has a remarkable beach.
Castello d’Empuries is a good centre for touring the surrounding area.
Bus Services: There is a good network of local buses and coaches. From Castelló it is possible to get to Empuriabrava, Roses, Figueres and Barcelona. Buses stop outside the Hotel Emporium and tickets can be obtained from the bar. Timetables are posted at the bus stops.
The nearest coach station is at Figueres just across from the railway station and from Figueres there are Euroline coach services to London and other European destinations as well as to Alicante, Madrid etc. You will need to book ahead for busy periods especially the Summer peak season and Christmas/New Year.
Train Services: The nearest station is Figueres. From there you can get trains to Portbou, France and England and to Girona , Barcelona, (including Barcelona airport), Alicante, Madrid etc. Services are clean, fast (the air-conditioned expresses carry a supplement), and reliable. Fares are reasonable.
From Barcelona Airport, take a local train to Barcelona (Sants) and then change platforms for the Catalunya Express to Figueres- through tickets are available. . There are sleeper services for long distance travel and the Talgo is Spain’s Inter City Express. There is a High Speed Train (AVE) linking Madrid and Seville- you get some of your fare back if the train is late!
