Eurostar Brussels Services Suspended Until Next Week
Betty MorganEurostar has announced that they will continue to suspend their London to Brussels services until at least the start of next week. This comes after the fatal head on collision of two trains in Belgium on Monday morning at about 8:30am, during which 18 people were killed. Eurostar has suspended the London to Brussels service until at least Sunday and won’t begin selling tickets for the route again until Monday as they try to accommodate travelers who already have tickets.
The rail operator immediately suspended the service after the crash, which included a commuter train running a red light and colliding head on with an inter-city train, which was already running 10 minutes late. The collision is said to be the worst rail disaster in Belgium in more than 50 years, destroying 3 carriages and hospitalizing up to 60 people.
Earlier this week, Eurostar said in a statement that they advise passengers between the UK and Brussels to delay or cancel their journeys due to the seriousness of the incident and the impact it is expected to make on both domestic and international services. However, they are advising travelers who urgently need to travel to Brussels to check in at the London Brussels Midi terminal to ride the train to Lille Europe. There is a shuttle bus running between Brussels Midi and Lille Europe as well, but there is limited capacity and it takes more than 1-and-half hours to get there.
Of course, anyone who had a ticket they can’t use now can get a refund or exchange it free of charge. They are giving passengers plenty of time to do so – 2 months.
