Property Description

Welcome to our lovely vacation house in Oostduinkerke at the Belgian coast. Surrounded by the majestic dunes of the North Sea 's sand and only one mile off the coastline, our house is the ideal place for a quiet holiday with or without children.

Our sandy garden has been a fantastic playground for our own children and for those of many other renters. Fir trees encircle it. They give us a cool and pleasing shadow in hot summers and transform our garden into a romantic spot during the snowy winters. It also makes our garden a safe place for children to play around. We have a barbecue, garden furniture, 5 bicycles and a private carpark.

Our holiday house has a luxury kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and even a dryer. In our cosy living-dining room there is a cable TV, a video recorder, a hifi, and many round games and books are at your disposal.

We have a seperate lavatory and a bathroom with a bath tub, shower and toilet. There is one big bedroom with a double bed and another bedroom with three separate beds. Each room has enough wardrobes to put your clothes away.

Our house is part of a small, enclosed and very quiet residential area, and literally a bowshot away from the beach.

Local Area Information

Oostduinkerke has the only museum of fishery within the Belgian borders. More information on www.visserijmuseum.be. Art lovers must take a visit to the Ensormuseum in Ostend, only twenty minutes away by car.

Veurne (6km) is the capital of the fertile region of Veurne-Ambacht. The unique market place of Renaissance fa├žades and its elegant buildings such as the Town Hall, Viscounts Hall, the Butchers' Hall and the Belfry, are fine examples of the early 17th century architecture.

Ypres (40km) is a small town with a big history that is closely linked to Britain. Most family memories go back three or more generations to relatives who served in Flanders during World War One, with Ypres as the centrepiece. A visit is like a pilgrimage, trying to visualise on-the-spot where awesome battles took place. Today you can visit the preserved trenches at Sanctuary Wood, or the 'Trenches of Death' at Dixmude (17km) which was held by the Belgians - a reminder that troops from 30 countries were involved in the Ypres sector, though the majority were British.

Bruges (50km), also referred to as 'the Venice of the North', is a splendid medieval city and one of Belgium's crown jewels. In no other European city the feel and the look of medieval times are so present as here in this city close to the North Sea. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Bruges is a treasure trove of narrow streets and cobblestone squares, picturesque canals and richly decorated Guild Houses.
