The pretty village of Backbarrow is home to a number of attractions including Lakeland Motor Museum Cliffhanger Rooms and Bigland Barrow while the neighbouring village of Haverthwaite (1.5 miles) marks the start of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. Heading north Fell Foot Park lies at the southern end of Windermere (2.5 miles) with landmarks including the Lakes Aquarium Stott Park Bobbin Mill and Gummer s How (all within 3.5 miles). Windermere is a fabulous base for woodland walks or for taking a cruise across the lake. Heading south the popular market town of Ulverston is the birthplace of Stan Laurel and is home to the Laurel and Hardy Museum (7.5 miles) with the South Lakes Safari Zoo also nearby (10.5 miles). The entrance porch features original slate flooring and is a handy space for hanging up coats before entering the cosy and relaxing lounge. This light and airy room is a wonderful space to unwind in at the end of a great day with a lovely wood burner plenty of seating and a Smart TV so you can relax and enjoy a favourite movie. Exploring further the attractive kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven and hob fridge/freezer washing machine and microwave. You can share a family meal in the delightful dining room which has bi-fold doors opening out onto the garden. Stairs lead up from the lounge to the first floor where you will find two cheerful and tastefully decorated bedrooms. The beautifully furnished master bedroom features a king-size bed an original feature fireplace and plenty of storage space. The second bedroom is a twin room which can be made up as a king-size on prior request and has views overlooking the garden. The first floor also has the family bathroom hidden behind a sliding door on the landing and featuring a shower over the bath and a WC. Heading outside the fantastic back garden is arranged over several tiers and includes a lovely decked patio area with outdoor furniture mounted heater and lighting perfect for a spot of al fresco dining. Steps lead up further into the garden which is covered with Astroturf there are further seating areas and a hot tub a pretty flower garden a decked area offering far-reaching views and a grassed area with a plum tree and apple tree. In front of the cottage there s a small seating area and parking space for two cars. A steel bike cable with padlock is provided for storing bikes. Just a few miles away from neighbouring village Newby Bridge is the southern tip of Windermere England s longest lake and a hugely popular Lake District destination at Lakeside (3 miles). Hop aboard a vessel with Windermere Steamers for a tranquil and relaxed exploration of the water and head up to Bowness (9 miles) or Ambleside (14.5 miles). The accommodation is laid out over the first and second floors of the building. Inside on the first floor you'll find a sociable open-plan kitchen/living/dining area, along with a bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen is fully fitted with a washer/dryer, dishwasher, separate fridge freezer and microwave, as well as a full convection hob and oven. The dining table can seat six people bench-style or with the option of chairs for four people. The two further bedrooms and a second bathroom are upstairs on the second floor, both double rooms in size; the master bedroom with its super-king bed may be split into two singles on request. A tunnel under the road allows you to walk from the apartment into the village. Backbarrow enjoys a position on the banks of the River Leven and clues to this area's industrial heritage can be found all around. The ironworks itself is the site of the oldest ironworks ancient monument in the country, bordered by the River Leven on one side and Haverthwaite Heights to the rear. There are scenic walks from the front door down the river or onto the heights (great if you have a dog) which has stunning views across the Morecambe Bay a short walk away. Follow the river through the village to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, built to transport coal and iron inland from the coast, now a popular tourist attraction where the trains take you through scenic countryside to Lakeside, at the south end of Lake Windermere and a boat journey on to bustling Bowness-on-Windermere. Another great attraction on the doorstep is the Lakeland Motor Museum. It makes a fascinating way to spend the day and has an excellent riverside cafe for breakfast and lunch with a view. Close to the southern tip of Lake Windermere, why not spend a day exploring here?
