Bideford itself is renowned for its New Year's Eve celebrations, where visitors and locals alike don extravagant fancy dress costumes and head to one of the many Inns on the quayside to see in the New Year.  For the energetic, the famous Tarka Trail is one of the country’s longest continuous traffic-free walking and cycling paths and makes use of disused railway tracks – the perfect way to explore the beautiful North Devon Countryside with easy access from the cottage, just 3 minutes across the old Bideford Bridge. This position means you are close to the quay where you can enjoy boat trips why not try a fantastic 2-hour trip which takes visitors out to the isolated island of Lundy with its resident seal colony and puffins? Head 3 miles to the pretty fishing village of Appledore where visitors can enjoy a relaxing day trip pottering around the shops strolling along the quay and perhaps catch the ferry across to the neighbouring village of Instow with its yacht club and beach.
