Fernhill Castle is one of Yorkshire’s most distinguished historic houses. Dating back to the 14th century, it rests within its own fifteen-acre estate on the outskirts of Skipton, known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales.
This Grade I listed fortified mansion was built by Edward De Fernhill to protect nearby Bolton Abbey from starving marauders who, after being defeated at the Battle of Bannockburn, had travelled south from Scotland in search of food, particularly the cattle that grazed the Bolton estate.
