Bustling Fishguard is two towns: the modern one is high above the cliffs and the older lower town is clustered around the quayside and was famously featured in the films Moby Dick and Under Milk Wood. The harbour is central and now a major ferry port with daily sailings to Rosslare in Eire. In 1797 the town was the site of the last invasion of mainland which is now commemorated by a famous tapestry – often compared to the one in Bayeux – on display at the Town Hall.
